    Curious about what it's like being a Freeman Graduate Student? Come try it out! This experience begins with an Admissions Team Introduction, an overview of our Graduate Business Programs and application components, a building tour, and concludes with a class visit.

    Tentative Schedule:

    • 3:00pm: Tour the Business School Building
    • 3:15pm: Break
    • 3:30pm - 4:30pm: Sit in and observe a Graduate Level Course FINE 7180 Financial Modeling with Professor Landon Ross
    This hands-on course focuses on the applications of quantitative models in finance. Course topics include: mathematical and computational models of stock price movements involving stochastic processes; applications of probability theory to portfolio risk analysis; modeling of cash flows and valuation; Monte Carlo simulation applied to both investments and cash flow modeling; applications of numerical optimization in finance; and use of Excel and Python for computation, statistics, and graphics in finance. 

    Landon Ross came to the Freeman School in 2024 after working as a financial economist at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Previously, he completed his PhD in finance at Washington University in St. Louis and worked at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. His research interests include applications of machine learning, large-scale optimization, robust optimization and natural language processing in finance. His most recent research develops small-scale analogs of large language models specifically for estimating public companies’ future stock returns and other financial information. At the Freeman School, he will teach Advanced Financial Modeling. Ross earned a master’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis and a BA at Creighton University.
