Entrepreneurial firms face financial issues that are significantly different from those facing established companies. This course focuses on analyzing the special finance issues faced by such companies and on the knowledge and tools needed by managers of these firms. Topics covered will include stages of venture capital development, start-up financing (venture capital, leasing, bank loans), financial management of rapidly growing firms, deal structuring for entrepreneurial firms, and financial distress issues and concerns. Initial public offerings will also be examined as a culminating event for entrepreneurial firms. The course also covers the broader topic of private equity. The course investigates why firms seek private rather than public equity and identifies differences between private and public equity investments.

Professor Oleg conducts research on financial intermediaries with a primary focus on Private Equity and Hedge funds. His papers have been published at the Journal of Financial Economics, the Review of Financial Studies, the Review of Finance, the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, the Journal of Corporate Finance, and featured in NBER Digest, Wall Street Journal, Private Equity Findings, and London Business School Roundtable on Private Equity fundraising and Harvard Law School Forum on Corporate Governance and Financial Regulation. Oleg has presented at the major academic conferences such as the annual meetings of American Finance Association, Financial Intermediation Research Society, and Financial Management Association. Prior to pursuing graduate studies he worked for six year in investment banking and portfolio management.
